At site, chatting with senior engineers, the topic always comes up: the MHKIE exam.
As an AE, getting licensed is a must. The question is: Civil or Structural?
What Seniors Said
Civil is like a generalist - roads, bridges, tunnels, drainage. Broad knowledge, many coordination tasks on site.
Structural is a specialist - reinforced concrete, steel structures, load calculations. More precise, higher Code requirements.
Exam Difficulty
Structural written exam is notoriously hard - heavy calculations, low error tolerance. Civil is more flexible but demands project breadth and management experience.
The Advice
Look at your temperament. If you like calculations and structural logic, go Structural. If you prefer site work and solving coordination problems, Civil might be better.
My Situation
Im working on modular housing - MiC.既有 structural logic, 也有 site coordination. First time on site is the best study material.
Walk 10,000+ steps on site every day. At night, review drawings and manuals. Walk to the park after work to clear my head of all the Codes.
